There are a number of different factors that can contribute to the destruction of a tropical dry forest. One of the main things that are destroying these forests is human pollution. Waste left in tropical dry forest cause the diverse species of plants to be unable to pollinate. With plants unable to pollinate, this cripples the local ecosystem. The primary consumers that rely on fruits will need to find other sources of food. On a more serious note: The plants that are affected will be unable to reproduce, and many plant populations will die out. The tropical dry forest has had little time to adapt to these issues, but already scientists are seeing plants that are developing more buds per season, allowing for more seeds to be pollinated.
Another issue that plagues the Tropical Dry forest is game hunting. Of the few regions that still exist, many are in small pockets of land, making it a target for game hunters. Also, a large amount of the tropical dry forests that exist are in places where animal protection programs are not yet in effect, so hunting is not illegal. Hunters will kill off the main predators, and thus their prey will overpopulate and damage the ecosystem. A solution for this would be to restrict the amount of animals that are legally allowed to be hunted, or to make hunting illegal in these areas. Although there still will be illegal poaching, the amount of animals that are killed would exponentially decrease.
One of the impacts that humans have on the tropical dry forest would be deforestation. Because of the majestic as well as magnificent deciduous trees, the tropical dry forest is subject to destruction. It attracts attention from humans. The deciduous trees’ wood is ideal for building conditions. Large patches of trees are cut down on a regular basis. Areas of the tropical dry forest region have been taken out. Humans have disturbed the dry forest.
The Tropical dry forest has adapted to these hostile actions in a few ways. Because there are fewer seedlings due to the dry environment there is no seedling competition. The stump of the trees that were cut down re-grow at an immense rate. Because the trees are massive, the rate of growth is fast. Studies have shown that canopy height of the Tropical dry forest recovered in 20 years as opposed to normal rain forests wherein after 40 years it still has not recovered.
